Montserrat and Museum entry from Barcelona

Enjoy a trip up to Montserrat hill, the Basilica and its Museum, from Barcelona. An incredible monument that mixes nature´s beauty with that of man. Experience the magnificent views of some of the most unusual rock formations in all of Catalonia.
Catch the train in Plaça Espanya, at the FGC train station, and make the most of an entire day in Montserrat. The Montserrat railway allows you to take in the mountain´s surroundings. It will take you all the way to the top of Montserrat Mountain. Once up, you will be able to experience the new audio-visual "Montserrat doors in".
The exhibition is based on the three fundamental sites, the mountain, the monastery and the sanctuary. In the Basilica, you will discover the Virgin of Montserrat "la Moreneta". Legend says that in the year 880, the Virgin appeared to some shepherds in a cave. A chapel was later built and became a hub for pilgrimages. The image is a twelfth-century Romanesque wooden statue with a darker tone caused by decaying varnish.
The Montserrat Museum contains one of the most important collections of art in the country, from the thirteenth to the eighteenth century and the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. It includes works by Caravaggio, El Greco, Rusiñol, Casas, Picasso, Dalí, Monet and many more, as well as boasting an important collection of archaeology from the ancient times, with artefacts from as far as the Middle East.
